Right, every pay run
Paid Correctly, Reported On Time
Payroll is one of those jobs that has to be right every single time, since a mistake affects someone's pay, not just your own books. I provide payroll services for businesses across Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley, covering weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay runs, Single Touch Payroll reporting, superannuation and leave entitlements. First-time employers get a proper setup from the start, rather than a quick fix that causes problems later. At Count On M3, payroll runs alongside BAS lodgement and your other compliance work, so nothing about your obligations gets missed. If award interpretation questions come up, I'll flag them and point you toward the right advice rather than guessing. Call me on 0439 008 120 to get your payroll sorted properly.

The process
Setting Up Payroll the First Time
Taking on a first employee means a few things need to be in place before the first pay run, starting with PAYG withholding registration and Single Touch Payroll-enabled software. Employee details, including tax file number declarations and superannuation fund choices, need to be collected and recorded correctly from day one. Pay rates and entitlements are set according to the relevant award or agreement, along with how leave will accrue. Once that groundwork is done, each pay run follows the same process: hours or salary confirmed, tax and superannuation calculated, STP reporting submitted to the ATO, and payslips issued. Award interpretation questions that fall outside bookkeeping scope get referred to the appropriate specialist.

Questions
Payroll Questions, Answered

- What is Single Touch Payroll?
- Single Touch Payroll (STP) is the ATO's system for reporting payroll information, including wages, tax and superannuation, each time employees are paid. It replaced the need for a separate annual payment summary process.
- How is superannuation calculated for employees?
- Superannuation is generally calculated as a percentage of an employee's ordinary time earnings, at the rate set by current legislation. The exact calculation can vary depending on the type of payment and any applicable award conditions.
- What's involved in setting up payroll for a first-time employer?
- Setting up payroll for the first time involves registering for PAYG withholding, setting up STP-enabled software and establishing correct pay rates and entitlements. Getting this right from the start avoids having to unwind incorrect setups later.
